A bird in hand is better than two in the bush goes the famous idiom, an idiom whose relevance and aptness is acknowledged universally. But most of us, usually put this wise saying in the back burner in our daily life and run after the mirage of the two birds in the bush, thus more often that not foregoing the bird that we might have been holding in hand, otherwise.
It is human tendency to belittle what one already has and aspire for things which are not within one's grasp. This tendency abhorring familiarity and monotonousness in life breeds contempt for all things mundane, thus ushering in ingenuity and innovation resulting in the genesis of development and progressiveness of life.
When one aspires for more, one has to take risks and risks involve loosing what one has in the first place. Thus, in my opinion, risk taken has to be calculated. Calm waters never make skillful sailors but rushing into choppy waters without adequate thought is a fool's prerogative.
The best things in life are free and it is important never to loose sight of them. Friendship, loyalty, laughter and love are treasures that one should cherish for life but in the quest for the symbolic materialist two birds in the bush we let go of these treasures, thereby creating a void that gradually engulfs the self, enhancing a perpetual feeling of regret that lingers on and on and on ......
